As I sat down to my computer today, I realized that it’s been several weeks since I last posted – and truthfully it was on purpose.
About a month before vacation, I was emailed a link that changed the way I looked at things, and how spent my time with those I am with. The point of the video is to show how we are constantly held captive by the internet and social media. Instead of being with your family or group of friends a group message will do, instead of taking in all of life’s experiences, you miss them because you are too busy looking down at the screen in between your hands.
My favorite line from the video is this:
“So look up from your phone, shut down the display – take in your surroundings, make the most of today.
Just one real connection is all it can take – to show you the difference that being there can make.”

I was fortunate enough to be able to enjoy 10 glorious days off with my husband and within that time included a family trip to my favorite place in the world – the Outer Banks. I had mentioned before that we had some things coming up that we were really looking forward to, and this topped the list. Time with family is always important and cherished. I decided that I wasn’t going to spend every waking minute checking work emails, scrolling through Facebook or posting to Instagram.
I have no other words to describe this year’s trip other than perfect. The house we rented, the beach, the weather, the food, the time with family, and the memories. I am thankful of the perspective that I packed in my suitcase this year because it helped me to be more ‘there’ than I might have otherwise been. Some of my favorite things included the delayed anniversary celebration between Chris and I – we decided to go Charter Fishing for a day and it was awesome. Dinner at our favorite restaurant with my brother and sister in law proved that we need to spend more time together as the four of us. It was a great time and the meal was delicious. I gave my niece a bright pink pedicure – complete with sparkles and deep down in my heart I secretly wished I’d be able to do this for a daughter of my own some day. My heart is full of love, my soul is refreshed and mind is relaxed. I couldn’t be more thankful for such a perfect time. I leave you with some of my favorite pictures from our trip.
